Family Ministry Updates 2026

July, 7th Updates

Happy July!

A few family ministry updates as we move into the middle of summer:  First, our mid-week summer series for kids, each Wednesday evening, Purposeful Pathway is going great! Each week kids are learning truths from the book of Proverbs.  They are collecting their pathway cards each week. Remember—these truths from the book of Proverbs are excellent ways to help are kids build stronger character, better friends, and help them create a spiritual foundation for formation.  If you haven't signed them up yet, you can still do that here.  However—this week, July 8th, we're on mid-summer break—so there are NO ON CAMPUS ACTIVITIES. We'll see you on July 15th.

Let's Move Into The Family Room

The Family Room: Week 1 Recap"House Rules"

Missed us for our very first Family Room morning? Here's a look at what happened — and we'd love for you to join us next time!

The Morning

We kicked things off with breakfast at 9:00 AM — families gathered around tables, kids grabbing plates alongside parents, coffee in hand, and conversation flowing before worship even began. It was easy, fun and low-key.

After a great breakfast, and few worship songs together, we settled into our living-room-style stage for the first message in our brand-new series: The Family Room: Where Faith Feels Like Home.

House Rules

Every home has rules — some written, some unspoken. Some families take their shoes off at the door. Some don't allow phones at the table, etc.

But Week 1 wasn't about handing out a longer list of house rules. It was about discovering the difference between a rule and a value — a rule tells you what to do in a moment, but a value shapes who you are in every moment, including the ones nobody's watching.

We looked together at Deuteronomy 6, where Moses stands with the people of Israel on the edge of the Promised Land and reminds them why any of this matters. At the center of the passage is the Shema — "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength" — the most quoted verse in Jewish history, still recited daily by Jewish families today. Everything else in the chapter, we learned, is simply what that love looks like when it spills into ordinary life: talked about at home, on the road, at bedtime, first thing in the morning, and even written on the doorframes of the house.

From there we landed on three truths:

  • Faith begins with you — before we can hand faith to our kids, it has to actually be ours.
  • Faith happens during everyday moments — not just in church, but in the car, at the table, at bedtime.
  • Small habits shape great faith — strong families aren't built by accident, but by small, repeated, often unglamorous habits over time.

Then we got practical: if your family sat down this week to write actual house rules — not chores, but values — here are five that would put you in good company:

  • We Choose Joy
  • We Tell the Truth
  • We Forgive Quickly
  • We Help Others
  • We Put God First

This Week's Challenge

Every family went home with a House Rules card listing all five values.  The challenge for the week is simple:

Choose ONE house rule as a family, and intentionally practice it this week.

Not all five, just one.

Closing

We ended the morning the way we'll close every week in this room — with families huddled together, praying over one another before heading out.

Join Us Next Time
