WHY the Time is Now
Caring for God’s house is both a privilege and a responsibility. In 2 Kings 12, King Joash recognized that while the temple was still active, it had been worn down over time. His response was not criticism or delay, but faithful leadership. He prioritized restoration, understanding that repairing the temple was a spiritual act of stewardship.
Like the temple in Joash’s day, even sacred places can gradually fall into disrepair. Years of faithful ministry, constant use, deferred maintenance, and changing needs leave their mark. Wear and tear is not a failure. It is evidence of ministry happening. However, that neglect cannot continue indefinitely. Delaying necessary repairs only increases costs, limits ministry effectiveness, and risks misaligned priorities. Obedience often means acting when God makes a need clear.
Joash’s solution was beautifully simple: God’s people participated. Giving was willing, consistent, and rooted in faith. The work was handled with integrity, accountability, and transparency; principles we are fully committed to modeling through the Generation to Generations initiative. Our goal is not extravagance, but restoration. These updates focus on functionality, safety, ministry readiness, and honoring the Lord through excellence.
A healthy, well-maintained church strengthens both our worship and our witness. It creates welcoming spaces for our community, supports growing ministries, and reflects the value we place on what God is doing here.
The work has already begun. We have engaged Radcliffe Keater Construction, and design planning is underway. We anticipate beginning the initial phases of the project as early as April, with progress continuing as materials and approvals are secured.
The time to act is now, together, as one church, investing in the future ministry of First Baptist Mount Dora.
